Troop 202 is chartered by St. Francis United Methodist Church in Cary, North Carolina. We are a troop of boys ranging in age from 11-17. Regular troop meetings are held Monday nights from 7-8 pm. Our troop conducts meetings and outings all year.
Over the past 31 years, we’ve had 116 scouts earn the rank of Eagle Scout - the highest rank in Scouting. A number of our adult leaders have also earned their eagle rank.
We currently have around 70 scouts, 23 Assistant Scoutmasters, 9 committee members and a good number of parent volunteers. Our scouts are organized into 10 patrols. Each patrol has a mix of younger and older scouts.
Scouts lead our troop. They are elected annually into positions of responsibility by their peers. If they are selected to serve in a troop position, they meet monthly to plan the outings for the troop. Adult leaders mentor the scout leaders by using helpful advice and constructive feedback. Our youth and adult leaders are trained for their specific positions.
Our troop typically has 10 weekend outings a year along with 2 high adventure outings and a yearend trip. We attend 2 different summer camps, Camp Durant and Raven Knob. As well as, National Jamboree, Florida Sea Base, Northern Tier High Adventure, and Philmont Scout Ranch when applicable. We also have scouts who participate in various Order of the Arrow events during the year.
Focus is placed on assisting new scouts achieve advancement and on offering Eagle Merit Badge classes for scouts who are interested.
This year our troop is participating in a popcorn fundraiser.
